The Reality of Domestic Ecotourism in Algeria under the National Tourism Development Master Plan 2030 for Enhancing Sustainable Development – An Analytical Study of Sétif Province, Algeria

Abstract

This study examines ecotourism in Sétif Province, Algeria, within the framework of the National Tourism Development Master Plan 2030, with a focus on the role of ecotourism as an internal economic and development driver. Ecotourism has gained increasing significance as one of the fastest-growing segments of the tourism sector, contributing to sustainable development by supporting local economies, generating employment opportunities, and preserving natural environments as well as cultural heritage. The study aims to analyse the current status of domestic ecotourism in Sétif Province, evaluate the effectiveness of national policies, identify the main challenges hindering tourism development, and propose practical recommendations for enhancing the sector. The descriptive-analytical approach was adopted, based on official and field sources. The study assessed tourism investment projects, development programmes, and the legal framework regulating tourism activities in the province. The findings indicate that ecotourism in Sétif Province constitutes an important component for achieving sustainable economic and social development; however, the sector continues to face several challenges, including weak institutional coordination, insufficient awareness campaigns, and shortcomings in certain tourism infrastructures.
