Human Rights and National Sovereignty in the Politics of Migration

Abstract

Migration is a topic that is extremely important in international politics because it poses challenging problems at the intersection of human rights and state sovereignty. the political dynamics of migration, with a particular focus on the manner in which governments strike a balance between their responsibilities to protect the rights and dignity of migrants and refugees and the imperative to keep borders open and preserve sovereignty. It is through a study of migration policy and international frameworks that the contradictions that arise between restrictive immigration rules and the tenets of international human rights agreements are investigated. Utilizing example studies from South Asia, the United States of America, and Europe, this article examines the political, economic, and social factors that have an impact on migration policies and the consequences those policies have on the welfare of migrants. an approach to migration governance that is rights-based and collaborative, with the goal of promoting inclusion and humanitarianism while simultaneously addressing concerns about security. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the ongoing conversations about migration by providing insights into new policies that prioritise both national interests and individual fundamental rights.
