Abstract

Young people's self-perception and social interactions have been profoundly affected by the pervasiveness of social media in their daily lives. the sociological effects of online platforms on the process of young people's identity development. Adolescence and early adulthood are formative years for many reasons, including but not limited to: personal experiences, societal standards, and social interactions. Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Snapchat are all social media platforms that play an important part in the construction of personal and social identities by providing new areas for self-expression, communication, and social validation. how young people's views of themselves, their bodies, their beliefs, and their social relationships are shaped by their experiences in online forums and through user-generated material. Additionally, it delves into how factors like social comparison, peer pressure, and online recognition impact the formation of an individual's sense of self. There are positive aspects to social media, such as the chance to connect with others and share ideas, but there are also negative aspects, such as the possibility of cyberbullying, low self-esteem, identity uncertainty, and the pressure to adhere to unrealistic societal norms.
